Keep Yourself Clean
Narrated Aisha (the wife of the Prophet; may Allah be pleased with her):
The people used to come from their abodes and from Al-‘Awali (i.e. outskirts of Madina up to a distance of four miles or more from Medina). They used to pass through dust and used to be drenched with sweat and covered with dust; so sweat used to trickle from them. One of them came to Allah’s Apostle (may Allah be pleased with him) who was in my house. The Prophet said to him:
“I wish that you keep yourself clean on this day of yours (i.e. take a bath).”
[Sahih Bukhari; Book 13, #25]
Cleanliness
Narrated Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):
The companions of Allah’s Apostle (may Allah’s peace be upon him) used to practise manual labor, so their sweat used to smell, and they were advised to take a bath.
[Sahih Bukhari; Book 34, #285]
Preach and Practice
Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace be upon him) said:
“The example of a scholar who teaches people goodness and forgets himself is like a lamp which illuminates for the people but burns itself.”
[Reported by At-Tabarany in Al Mu`jam Al Kabir 2/178, No. (1681) and Al Albany graded it as good.]
