Foul Language
Abu-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Prophet (may Allah’s peace be upon him) said:
“Nothing will be heavier on the Day of Resurrection in the Scale of the believer than good manners. Allah hates one who utters foul or coarse language.”
[At- Tirmidhi; Book 1, hadith 626]
Be Grateful
Almighty Allah said (translation):
“And We (Allah) had certainly given Luqman wisdom [and said], “Be grateful to Allah.” And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. …”
[Quran, Surat Luqmān(31):12 (partial)]
Lower Your Voice
Almighty Allah said (translation):
“And be moderate (or show no insolence) in your walking, and lower your voice. Verily, the harshest of all voices is the voice (braying) of the ass.”
[Quran, Surat Luqmān(31):19]
Walk Easily
Almighty Allah said (translation):
“And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace.”
[Quran, Surat Al-Furqān(25):63]
Pride and Insolence
Almighty Allah said (translation):
“And turn not your face away from men with pride, nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily, Allah likes not each arrogant boaster.”
[Quran, Surat Luqmān(31):18]
Walk Not with Arrogance
Almighty Allah said (translation):
And walk not on the earth with conceit and arrogance. Verily, you can neither rend nor penetrate the earth, nor can you attain a stature like the mountains in height.
[Quran, Surat Al-‘Isrā'(17):37]
Comparing with Others
Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (may Allah’s peace be upon him) said:
Look at those below you and not those above you. It is better for you, so that you do not deny Allah’s blessings on you.
[Bukhari and Muslim; as quoted in: ‘The Fundamentals of Tawheed,’ by Dr. Bilal Philips]
