Being Considerate of Others

January 31, 2012 Leave a comment

One should not push to get to the Black Stone (during Hajj or ‘Umrah) as the Prophet (may Allah’s peace be upon him) said:

‘Umar, you are a strong man, so do not harm the weak and when you wish to touch it [Black Stone], wait until it becomes free and if not then face it and say Allahu Akbar.

[Ahmad; as quoted in ‘A Manual on the Rites of Hajj,’ by Sh. Alee ibn Wahf al-Qahtaani]

Criticizing Food

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

Messenger of Allah (May Allah’s peace be upon him) never found fault with food.  If he had inclination to eating it, he would eat; and if he disliked it, he would leave it.

 [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary from Riayad-us-Saliheen:  This Hadith throws light on the Prophet’s excellent manners which ought to be followed by all Muslims.  It is a deplorable state of affairs that when we find a dish a bit unsavoury, we lose our temper and create quite a scene in the house.  May we follow the excellent example of our Prophet (May Allah’s peace be upon him)!

The Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace be upon him) said:

“Travel is a piece of punishment as it deprives you of food, drink, and sleep.  So when you complete your needs you should hurry back to your family.”

[Bukhari and Muslim; as quoted in ‘A Manual on the Rites of Hajj,’ by Sh. Alee ibn Wahf al-Qahtaani]

Jarir bin ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:

I asked Allah’s Messenger Muhammad (may Allah’s peace be upon him) about the sudden glance (that is cast) on the face (of a non-Mahram*).  He commanded me that I should turn away my eyes.

*Mahram – someone you are prohibited to marry, e.g. uncle or aunt, father or mother etc.  Non-Mahram would be someone whom you could marry.

Narrated ‘Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):

The family of Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace be upon him) had never eaten their fill of wheat bread for three successive days since they had migrated to Madina till the death of the Prophet (may Allah’s peace be upon him).

Narrated Al-Aswad bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him):

I asked ‘Aisha “What did the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace be upon him) use to do at home?”  She (may Allah be pleased with her) said:

“He used to work for his family, and when he heard the Adhan (call for the prayer), he would go out.”

Narrated ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him):

During some of the Ghazawat [battles] of the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace be upon him), a woman was found killed.  Allah’s Apostle (may Allah’s peace be upon him) disapproved the killing of women and children.
